Gencay Çubuk is the founder and principal of Stratum Assemblies, established in 2017. He received his architectural education at Antalya Science High School, followed by a Bachelor of Architecture from Yıldız Technical University, and a Master’s degree in Architectural Design from Istanbul Technical University.
Graduating with high honors—ranking second in his department and third in the faculty—he was awarded First Prize in the 6th International Young Architects Meeting, held under the auspices of the International Union of Architects (UIA) in the professional category. One year later, he was invited to the 7th International Young Architects Meeting, was invited to participate in the jury process.
His work received 25 awards and distinctions, including eight international awards and nine first prizes, among them UIA and EXPO affiliated recognitions. During this period, he collaborated with several internationally awarded architectural practices, shaping an approach grounded in design research, spatial narrative, and contextual rigor.
Beyond architectural design competitions, he was honored in the KTMMOB Spatial Narrative Competition and the Architects’ Association 1927 Competitions, and was selected for the Author of the Year lists in 2018, 2020, and 2025, reflecting his parallel engagement with architectural writing and critical discourse.
In 2016, he was invited by Yıldız Technical University, serving as studio coordinator and graduation jury member. He joined Trakya University as an academic in 2017, completed his PhD in Architecture between 2018 and 2022, and was awarded the doctoral degree in July 2022. He received the title of Associate Professor in April 2024.
In 2022, Çubuk served as Moderator of the Italian Design Days Closing Ceremony, hosted by H.E. Giorgio Marrapodi, Ambassador of Italy to Türkiye, with Rahmi Koç as Guest of Honor, and organized by Pınar Sipahi.
He later served on the MimED 2024 Jury. He has been invited as a jury member for architectural design studios and graduation projects at Istanbul Technical University, Yıldız Technical University, Özyeğin University, Bahçeşehir University, and Altınbaş University. In 2025, he initiated and curated the international workshop “Bits to Bricks: Contemporary Approaches in Architectural Design.”
Çubuk’s work operates at the intersection of architectural design, research and narration and is supported by numerous publications and international workshops. He will serve as a jury member for the 2026 KTMMOB Spatial Narrative Competition.
